Paula Patton talks Robin Thicke divorce, finding strength to move on after heartbreak

Paula Patton and Robin Thicke were married in 2009 but had been a couple since high school. The two separated last year amid rumors of infidelity on his part, and Patton filed for divorce some time later.

She is now speaking about the split in an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, focusing on how she’s managed to move on from what must have been terrible heartache: apparently, the secret is to focus on the positive and to take each day at a time.

“I’m doing really well”

As Robin Roberts tells Patton (video below), she handled the split and the scandal that followed in the most admirable manner, because she refused to engage in gossip and to address in any way the rumors.

The fact that Robin kept trying to win her back by writing an entire album for her, crying in concerts and talking about their marriage to anyone who listened must have made Paula’s decision to keep the split out of the media even harder.

She’s just as classy in her answer on how she managed to cope with the breakup: everything happens for a reason, she says.

However, she wants to fans to know that she’s ok and that she has her son with Thicke, 4-year-old Julian, keeping her on her toes and not allowing her to “wallow” in sadness. “He brings me so much joy,” the actress says, adding that what makes her the happiest right now is knowing that Julian is happy too.

“I'm doing really well,” she continues. “I mean, the honest truth is it has been challenging, but it's been a year of growth… learning about all new things.”

New exciting projects

Shortly after rumors of Thicke’s cheating started spreading like wild fire online, Paula went off the radar. She continued to keep a very low profile after a publicist confirmed the separation, and long after that, while she filed the divorce papers and attorneys met to discuss custodial and financial arrangements.

In recent months, she started getting back to work, so her GMA appearance doubles as a promotional interview for 2 new projects: a collaboration with designer Ellen Tracy for her own clothing line, and a drama pilot called “Runner,” in which she plays lead and which she hopes will be picked up by ABC.

Here is Paula Patton’s full interview: she does seem like she’s back in the saddle, closing the book on her split from Robin. Meanwhile, he’s still to recover from the round of bad press and negative reviews for the album “Paula” and the cringe-worthy promotional tour he embarked on for it.
