The day that Robin Thicke thought would never come has finally arrived. It's the day that he's been so desperately trying to avoid for the past year or so, ever since Paula Patton announced that they were separating. Robin tried his best to get Paula to forgive him, to the point where he became known as Robin “Get Paula back” Thicke in the industry.

TMZ informs that today Paula passed the point of no return and she filed the divorce papers, twisting the dagger in Robin's back. Patton took the documents to an LA court and she motivated the divorce with the familiar “irreconcilable differences.”

Paula Patton finally filed the divorce papers, decided on joint custody of their son

The most important asset in their marriage, their 4-year-old son Julian, is going to continue having both parents in his life as Paula asked for joint custody. At least, Robin will be able to still make important decisions in his son's life.

The divorce comes 8 months after Paula announced that they were going to separate. At the time, an official statement read that they would always love each other and that they would be the best of friends, but that they decided mutually to separate.

Robin Thicke has been fighting the divorce kicking and screaming for the past 8 months

The mutual part of the announcement seemed made up, as Thicke spent much of the following 8 months trying to convince Paula to forgive him. He would go on to release an album entitled “Get Her Back” that turned out to be a flop in the charts.

On top of that, Thicke has recently admitted in a deposition that he's been abusing drugs and alcohol and that his most famous hit “Blurred Lines” was composed by Pharrell Williams and that he had no creative input whatsoever, after he'd been bragging that he had a big role in creating the hit.

His confession came as he is in the middle of a copyright claim dispute with the estate of Marvin Gaye, which alleges that “Blurred Lines” draws heavily from one of the late singer's own hits.

The fact that Robin chose to reveal his addiction to Vicodin and alcohol is said to have made Paula rethink the joint custody option. It was rumored that Paula would get single custody for Julian and deny him visitation if he didn't clean up his act. In the end, it seems that they worked out an arrangement.

The divorce documents reveal that the split is “harmonious” and that there are no issues big enough to cause a conflict. This indicates that Thicke has finally come to terms with the fact that he isn't going to get Paula back.
