Comic-book fans know Hank Pym, or Ant-Man as his super hero persona is called, as one of the founding founders of the Avengers. Now it seems the lovable and very smart Doctor Hank is going to be played by comedian and equally lovable actor Paul Rudd. At least, this is what the Hollywood gossip will have us believe.

Variety reports that Paul Rudd has been shortlisted for the leading role in Marvel's latest superhero movie, alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt. If it turns out to be true, it would be an interesting move on the part of Marvel, since Paul Rudd is not known for his action skills, as he is for his comedic abilities.

But then again, Robert Downey Jr. wasn't much of an action star before he was cast as Iron Man, and he managed to bring the franchise to incredible success. Maybe the Marvel execs are thinking the same could be done with Paul Rudd.

As a little bit of background for those who aren't die-hard fans of the Marvel universe, Ant-Man is actually Doctor Henry “Hank” Pym, a scientist who invents a substance that allows him to change his size. Armed with this ability and with a helmet that allows him to communicate with ants, Pym goes on to fight crime and also be one of the founding members of the Avengers.

The movie “Ant-Man” is scheduled for release on July 31, 2015. So far, it's been established that it will be directed by Edgar Wright, who also co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish.
