The game is shaping up nicely

Movies turn to games, games turn to movies. It's getting really crowded in the crossover market. Most based-on-games movies have bombed at the box office. Does anyone in the audience remember "hits" like Hitman or Doom? Games that are based on movies tend to equally messy affairs, with little actual solid gameplay. Their whole draw factor is based on a movie license and gamers are really very clear in criticizing them.

Lately, there have been some announcements that signal a turnaround. First, there's the news that a Metal Gear Solid movie is in the works. MGS is such a great franchise, so much loved by the people that played the games that such a project is bound to attract top-notch talent and immense interest. Also, news that Hideo Kojima is directly involved almost guarantees that the movie will be a hit.

The other bright spot on the radar is the Bourne-based game in production by Vivendi. On various occasions, developers have stressed the fact that The Bourne Conspiracy will not be just a game following the events of the movies, but a whole new adventure in its own right, with some new gameplay mechanics, including weaponization of the environment, and an atmosphere that is much darker than that of the movies.

To keep games as close to the movie franchise as possible, developers have hired Tony Gilroy, the screenwriter for all three movies to handle the plot. And now, there's news that renowned DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold will be the one taking care of the soundtrack for the game. Oakenfold himself stated that "the pace of the game is an ideal match for my musical tempo and style" and also said that he was one of the biggest fans of the Bourne movies.

Oakenfold and members of the Florida Classical Symphony will even play a concert, named "The Bourne Sessions", which will take the themes of the movie and spin them Oakenfold style for the listeners. The only problem is that it takes place in Miami and attendance is by invitation only.
