The staff working at the Bronx Zoo in New York are now mourning the loss of their beloved Pattycake, a 40-year-old gorilla that passed away at this animal sanctuary this Sunday, March 31.

Apparently, the staff working at the Bronx Zoo were well aware of the fact that Pattycake experienced chronic cardiac issues, and gave her appropriate treatment.

However, her old age and overall health condition eventually became too much for Pattycake to be able to handle. Sources say that, since a gorilla's average life expectancy is roughly 37 years, this gorilla's living to reach 40 goes to show that she was properly looked after while living in New York.

Pattycake was the first gorilla to be born in New York, which is why several hundreds of the city's residents are now mourning her loss.

Throughout her entire lifetime, Pattycake gave birth to ten healthy gorillas, which are now looked after at zoos spread all across the country.
