It appears that the 2011 CeBIT expo currently taking place is much poorer in terms of new announcements than one may have hoped, but this doesn't mean there is no activity, and Patriot proved this with its new storage devices.

Each year, there are several occasions when companies from around the world convene in various places around the world, like MWC (Mobile World Congress), CES (Consumer Electronics Show), IFA, ISE, Computex etc.

There, they present their latest hardware products and further plans, either one by one or as full collections, sometimes even launching items by the dozen.

Currently, the expo in effect is CeBIT, in Hannover, Germany, though one might say it is far less rich in product released than one may have hoped.

Still, if there is anything of interest, the newest high-speed solid state drives form various outfits definitely qualify.

So far, SSDs capable of working on the SATA 6.0 Gbps interface have been launched by the likes of G.Skill and Corsair, among others.

Now, Patriot is found to have done the same, its own offer consisting of the Wildfire series, which goes as high as 256 GB in terms of capacity.

They are powered by the SandForce SF-2200 controller chips and can read and write data at up to 500 MB/s.

The folks over at Hexus were the ones that managed to snag some photos of the Wildfire and described it as being just one of the many other SF-2200 SSDs at the show right now.

There is no mention of prices, unfortunately, but the company did disclose the fact that shipments should be ready to start by the time April comes around.

As it is, consumers will have to wait a few more weeks to get a clear idea of just how convenient it is to upgrade their storage with them.
