While 4GB is still the norm when it comes down to most mainstream and performance computers, there are those that require higher amounts of memory to be installed inside their systems, the recently introduced 12GB Patriot Viper Extreme tri-channel kit looking like a nice option for such users.

The kit is made up of three 4GB memory modules which run at 1600MHz, and have their timings set at 8-9-8-24.

The operating voltage is set at 1.65V and the kit is compatible with a wide variety of LGA 1366 motherboards.

Compared to other such kits, Patriot says their Viper Extreme memory uses a more advanced heatshield design that packs an extruded aluminum outer shield build around a 6-gram copper core to provide improved cooling.

In addition, the memory chips used are pre-sorted and tested to comply with the requirements of Intel's X58 chipset to allow for optimized performance and higher overclocking potential.

As is the case with all high-performance memory kits, the low latency Viper Extreme series is Intel XMP compatible, allowing for maximum performance to be achieved by simply activating the XPM profile in the motherboard's BIOS.

“The Patriot Viper Xtreme Series, part of the Extreme Performance (EP) line, is the ultimate performance memory solution for the Intel X58 system platform,” said one company official in regards to this kit.

“The Viper Xtreme Series are built using only the highest quality pre-sorted IC’s available and are subjected to rigorous testing and validation on the X58 platform to achieve optimized performance and maximum quality,” concludes the company's rep.

If you need this kind of memory capacity, NewEgg has them in stock for $209 with a free 16GB USB Flash drive as a limited time offer.

This makes them one of the cheapest 12GB tri-channel kits available that run at 1600MHz. (via Expreview)
