Patriot Memory has already proven that it is up to speed with all recent technologies that can enhance its storage and memory products, so it decide to not talk about its other devices, like a certain media server.

Media servers are what certain NAS (network-attached storage) devices get called if they are used to store and stream videos and other such files to PCs in a home network.

It is this very kind of storage solution that Patriot Memory has decided to bring forth and introduce to the masses.

The device goes by the name of Javelin S4 and has enough room on the inside for up to four 3.5-inch hard disk drives or solid state drives.

Whatever units are selected can be configured in RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 setups and can reach a capacity of up to a maximum of 3 TB.

The HDDs or SSDs need only be built with the SATA or SAS interface, as the OS of the product will handle the rest.

Speaking of an operating system, the media server features 128 MB of flash storage, on which the OS is installed, as well as 256 MB of RAM, to let it run smoothly.

All in all, the DLNA-ready Javelin S4 can act as an iTunes server and may handle remote media playback, among other things, all thanks to the Gigabit Ethernet, eSATA and two USB 2.0 ports.

"Media servers are gaining popularity in households with multiple computers and streaming audio and video devices,” says Patriot Memory Vice President of Engineering Les Henry.

“With the popularity of digital music and video downloads, a central hub for all digital downloads is the perfect way to distribute media to multiple systems and devices over your home network and the Internet," he added.

Patriot Memory did not say what price it end-users may expect from the Javelin S4 media server, but it did mention that late February, 2011 is when shipments are supposed to start.
