6GB and 12GB kits for enthusiasts

Now that most PC makers have, more or less, finished ramming their various laptops and desktops into the IT market, it is time for the rest of the companies, especially those that manufacture enthusiast components, to take their turns. At least, this is what Patriot's most recent announcement appears to suggest. The company, not long ago, in April to be exact, showed off the Viper II Sector 5 line of super-fast DDR3. Now that new and mightier central processors are on the horizon, the component maker has resolved to make preparation ahead of time.

The Viper II Sector 7 is the name that the latest of Patriot's offspring carry. Essentially, Sector 7 is a collection of enthusiast-grade DDR3triple-channel kits. Granted, they don't exactly match the 2,500MHz that their maker's Sector 5 previously demonstrated, but they still promise to perform admirably in the hands of overclockers, enthusiasts and gamers.

The triple-channel kits now unveiled have a capacity of 6GB, 12GB and 24GB, respectively, and clock speeds of 1600MHz or 1800MHz. The ones limited to 6GB come in both 1600MHz and 1800MHz versions, but the 24GB one sticks to the relatively safe and stable 1600MHz. All offerings have support for Intel XMP (extreme memory profile) and modules equipped with aircraft-grade aluminum heatspreaders. The company hopes to see its creations coupled with Intel X58 platforms. Unfortunately, except for the lifetime warranty, pricing and availability details are still a mystery.

"The Sector 7 Edition Extreme Performance DDR3 memory is yet another example of how Patriot provides performance modules that meet and exceed the performance expectations of hardcore enthusiasts," states Les Henry, Vice President of Engineering at Patriot. "Sector 7 Edition is an update and refresh of earlier modules. This move consolidates the best of the product offering under a family of products uniquely positioned for the enthusiast. This solution fits well with our objective of offering the latest technology and best performance in our product lineup."
