Less than two weeks after news transpired that Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight were considering leaving the all-too-popular show “Grey’s Anatomy,” it looks like yet another beloved character will be parting with the cast. Dr. McDreamy, a.k.a Patrick Dempsey, might no longer be a part of the show by the end of the season, Michael Aussielo of the Aussielo Files is saying.

Apparently, a teaser that was released to the media regarding the March 12 episode includes some clues as to Dempsey’s departure. However, the reports coming in right now are conflicting to say the least, since such a drastic move would probably come accompanied by more details for eager fans, it is being maintained. And this is definitely not the case here, Aussielo points out.

“After learning at a deposition that more of his patients have died than survived, Derek decides to quit – even as Meredith refuses to give up on him.” the teaser for the episode reads. Yet, as noted above, it includes no further explanation about how and when or how long Dempsey’s departure will last.

“Now, the chances of his resignation sticking are no doubt slim, but still. That’s a pretty major twist to give away in a press release, don’t you think? […] Unfortunately, the rest of the description for the episode is fairly benign, save for the revelation that Loretta Devine is returning as the Chief’s wife to mediate Richard's ongoing battle with Bailey. It also confirms that Izzie’s interns discover ‘something unsettling’ about Patient X (a.k.a. Izzie), but that’s old news.” Aussielo writes in his daily column on television and movie news and scoops.

While Heigl and Knight’s departures from the show did not come as shocking news for fans, that of Dempsey might, since he is one of the most popular characters of the lot. As a matter of fact, both Heigl and Knight, close friends in real life, have often voiced their dissatisfaction with the way the show was going, as well as with the way the crew was acting, hinting before that they might consider other projects. When word broke out that they had finally decided to move on, few were surprised.

With Dr. McDreamy, though, the story is different and him leaving the long-running show could cause a huge dent in the “Grey’s Anatomy” fanbase. So make sure you stay tuned here for updates on this one.
