Deep Silver and Techland, the publisher and developer of the new zombie shooter Dead Island have confirmed that a patch has been released for the game, after a pretty major mistake yesterday, when North American Steam users got an early build of the title instead of the final version on their platform.

Dead Island impressed a huge amount of gamers at the beginning of the year through an emotional trailer, but now, as it's being released all over the world, fans are finally able to see just how Techland and Deep Silver have lived up to their expectations.

For North American PC gamers, the first impressions weren't so good, as the Steam version that was released by the two companies was actually an early build, filled with glitches and problems.

Now, a patch has been released for the game, which solves many of the issues that were present in the early build of Dead Island. Unfortunately, the companies confirmed that those who already tried out the incomplete game will find their save files incompatible with the new version.

"This update may cause incompatibilities between the incorrect version of Dead Island that was released and the fixed version and cause a wipe on saved games," Deep Silver said. "We tried every avenue possible in order to avoid fans having to wipe their saved games and it’s important that fans are made aware of this ASAP."

"However, we have a solution to help regain some quest progress: When the game opens, select New Game -> Select the same character as you were using before, and then there will be an option for "Chapter Select" which will allow the player to jump to the last chapter they were playing in."

What's more, Deep Silver and Techland confirmed that some kind of "make up" plan is going to be revealed soon, in order to satisfy gamers that were stuck with the incomplete version up until now.

Dead Island already got a massive day-one patch that solved 37 glitches uncovered after the game went gold, so a new patch won't hurt, especially since it makes the whole zombie killing experience that much more stable.

Dead Island is now available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America, while Europe and the rest of the world gets it this Friday.
