Elcomsoft advertises a product capable of recovering BlackBerry device passwords. Protected BlackBerry and Apple backups are also not an issue for the highly capable cracking app.

Basically, any machine that runs on one of these platforms is easily accessed by the tool and backup information such as SMS archives, address books, call logs, camera snapshots, email account settings, applications, browsing history and cache can be obtained.

In order to crack the protection of an apparatus in such a short time, the utility uses hardware acceleration and while the home edition only supports 2 processors, the professional version can benefit from the power of up to 32 CPUs to perform the task.

The 79($102) variation can't do a whole lot, but the 200($260) variant can extract and decrypt keychain data from Apple gadgets with iOS 4, it can recover BlackBerry Keeper and Wallet passwords and even device key words.

The company offers an even more powerful tool called iOS 4.x Acquisition Toolkit, which is specially designed for law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

In order to complete a job, the app relies on the fact that most users set dictionary words as watchwords. The Phone Password Breaker has a large number of dictionaries and it randomly tries hundreds of forms for each dictionary word, this way being able to crack a 7 digit code in just an hour.

The recovery of a BlackBerry's device code is possible only if the phone's owner configured the phone to encrypt all the data on the media card. The company relies on statistics that say 30% of the BB owners have this option enabled.

It's clear that this tool was developed for recovery purposes, otherwise they wouldn't make the more advanced version available only for the authorities. However, in this case there is a very fine line between the purpose of this hacking software and what it really could be utilized for.
