According to Hitwise, the searches for Paris Hilton were increased with 538 percent last week.

"According to Hitwise US, the percentage of searches for "paris hilton" increased 538% for the week ending 6/9/07 versus 6/2/07 as the heiress began her jail sentence for violating her probation. Hilton's name was 40th most searched for term in the US for the week ending 6/9/07," Hitwise's officials said today.

In comparison with the long-awaited iPhone, the Apple device that is about to be released, Paris Hilton is much more popular than the handheld that recorded only a 52 percent increase. "According to Hitwise US, the number of search terms containing 'iphone' increased by 52% when comparing the four weeks ending 6/2/07 versus the four weeks ending 5/5/07. Top search terms containing 'iphone' were 'iphone,' 'apple iphone,' 'iphone release date,' 'iphone news,' and 'iphone price," Hitwise added.

In the past, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears were two of the most popular searches conducted through the Internet technologies that allow users to find information with ease. The searches are very different nowadays when the most popular searches conducted today are "black chicken", "christine dolce", "geoduck" and "terry bradshaw" according to Google Trends.
