Gökcen Eraslan announced earlier today, January 21st, the immediate availability for download and upgrade of the popular Pardus 2011 Linux-based Turkish operating system.

The final and stable version of Pardus 2011 is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.37 and it's available as Live and Installation images for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. It includes an enhanced YALI installer, a fist boot configuration tool, and the brand-new KDE Software Compilation 4.5.5.

"Pardus 2011 contains major improvements over the previous Pardus release 2009.2. The following sections provide a brief overview of those changes. Pardus 2011 now supports 64-bit processor architecture which is supported by many new Intel and AMD processors." - was stated in the official release notes.

Highlights of Pardus 2011:

CDMA, HSPA and VPN networks can now be easily set up by users; · Replaced OpenOffice.org with the new LibreOffice open source office suite; · Applied KDE's Oxygen style to all the GTK apps included in Pardus; · Updated Python to version 2.7.1; · Updated Perl to version 5.12.2; · Updated xorg-server to version 1.9.4 RC1 · Updated TeX Live to version 2009; · Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 9 is now the default browser; · SMplayer is the default video player; · Clementine is now the default audio player; · KsCD is now the default player for Audio CDs; · Lots of bug fixes.
