Also Clueless and Mean Girls

Paramount is the latest Hollywood studio to get into gaming. And if you've seen movies like "Clueless", "Mean Girls" or "Pretty in Pink", then you're gonna love the videogame offerings that Paramount will create and distribute. And this is just the first wave of games that comes from the studio. Based on their success on the market more of its intellectual properties might get the videogame treatment.

Sandi Isaacs, who is the head of Paramount's videogame business division, has said to magazine Variety that she and her team settled on the above titles for videogame adaptation mainly because they are well known movies and because they can better appeal to the woman who plays video games.

Make no mistake, Clueless and Mean Girls will not be AAA titles, with million dollar budgets and high profile developers. Paramount is not yet ready to bet big on videogames. All the movies mentioned will be used as the base to develop casual games, which are easy to pick up and do not offer a gamer much of a challenge. They have the advantage of attracting more female gamers than AAA titles and also provide a good testing ground for the company.

Legacy Interactive is the publisher for the games. It's currently unclear whether the games will sport a Paramount label or not. It seems that prices will be around 20 dollars, which is on par with the ones from the casual game market. The company says that the Nintendo DS, the PlayStation Portable and various mobile phone platforms are also considered for videogame development.

The titles from the newly announced Paramount line-up might find an audience, especially if some of the stars of the movies on which the games are based are somehow involved in the development process. But it's unlikely that the movie studio will find great success in videogaming unless it's prepared to invest at least as much as in a big budget movie.
