Video game developer Cyanide and publisher Paradox Interactive offered more information on their upcoming new title Impire, the strategy game that will use the world of Majesty in order to allow gamers to live out their evil overlord fantasies.

The core mechanic of Impire is linked to dungeon creation, as players create a complex design and then implement it in the game world.

A number of minion categories, a variety of deadly traps and spells can be used in order to slow down and kill a number of heroes before they are able to get to the core of the dungeon and get the treasure buried there.

As the game progresses, the powers of the demon Báal-Abaddon increase, just as the force of the heroes he faces grows and they acquire more equipment and better protection.

The single-player campaign can be played either solo or cooperatively by two players, although it’s not yet clear whether they will share content or only the action of one stage.

The concept sounds similar to that of Dungeon Master, but the use of the game world which also supports Majesty will probably introduce the game to a new audience.

The official statement from Paradox Interactive offers some information on the story of the game, stating, “Impire tells the sordid tale of Báal-Abaddon, a once-mighty horror from the Bottomless Pit, who finds himself summoned by the incompetent sorcerer, Oscar van Fairweather, and trapped in the form of a laughable imp.”

The multiplayer mode of Impire will support up to four players and will allow players to compete with their friends, presumably via an asynchronous mechanic where one controls the dungeon and the minions of the demon lord, while the others take the side of the heroes.

Paradox Interactive and Cyanide plan to launch Impire exclusively on the PC during the first quarter of next year.
