Pantech Group, which recently acquires Sky Teletech, has launched its first SKY mobile phones. The korean mobile communcation market has two kinds of mobile networks- cellular based on low frequencies in the 800-megahertz band and PCS using 1.8-gigahertz frequency.

According to analysts, the distribution is equal, which means that Korean mobile phone market is composed of 50% PCS, and 50% cellular telephony. If these numbers are correct, in 18.4 million Koreans resort to PCS phones.

Pantech president Lee Sung-kyu said the advent of the IM-8500L has two crucial business implications related to SKY Teletech's future strategy. "SKY-branded phones are now available to PCS phone users, who took up almost half of the market," Lee said. "`Also, we are already seeing a close collaboration between SKY Teletech and Pantech in providing customers with what they want _ a great product with a brand they love."

IM-8500, the first SKY branded PCS phone will have innovative design and function. Il-Jung Kim, chief executive officer of SKY Teletech, said: "This Dica-Phone is the most user friendly and design friendly phone out in the market. If you slide-open the back cover, it automatically becomes a digital camera that look and feels like a camera."

The features of IM-8500 includes embedded 2 mega pixel CMOS camera with panoramic view and 5 different photographic modes, 3D sound with 15Fi stereo speaker, wheel navigation key for ease of use.
