A new world record for slim mobile phones

Mobile phones seem to get slimmer and slimmer with every new launch. Pantech IM-S320 has just broken the record for being the thinnest slider phone in the world. It had tough competition too, as it managed to defeat Samsung U600, which has 10.9 mm in thickness.

It is easy to understand that high technology means compact and easy-to-use solutions, but we can't help wondering where this race for making handsets slimmer and slimmer will end. Pantech IM-S230 is 9.9 mm thin, with one full millimeter less than Samsung U600. That might not sound much, but for mobile phones every unit counts and, then again, that makes almost 10 percent less in size.

Aside from the fact that it comes in such a compact design, Pantech IM-S230 also features several performances which will surely make it quite desirable for many people. It has a 2.2-inch display, a bit small for what this phone has to offer. The reason for that is the DMB digital TV receiver that it comes with. You might want to see your favorite TV shows with a quality as high as possible and this display turns out to be borderline sizes.

Other specifications on this phone reveal the fact that it comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera. That is quite disappointing but, on the other hand, this is not a camera phone. Such performances might prove to be enough for basic image capture needs that a mobile phone user might have.

The fact that Pantech IM-S230 will be available only in Korea through Sky network will surely make some people sad. The exact date that this handset will be available has not been specified yet. The estimated price that the slimmest slider in the whole world will come for is that of USD 535. That's a bit pricey for the only extra advantage of having the world's slimmest slider phone.
