Pantech has recently announced the launch of a new handset, the S100 candybar, in an attempt to increase its market share in the Mexican hi-growth mobile phone market.

Although including a basic set of features, the S100 will offer everything an average user will need from a phone. The VGA camera with 4x zoom will offer the user the opportunity of taking snapshots as well as sharing them with friends or family or transferring them to a computer through Bluetooth.

Pantech's handset can also be used for listening to music as it features an MP3 player. Among the four Pantech products that have been honored at the prestigious iF Design Awards, the S100 has also been included in the iF Gold Selection 2007.

Its list of features is completed by a voice memo function, enabling users to record themselves whenever they need or want to, 1.8 inch TFT LCD 260k color screen, photo and video caller ID, flight mode, 64 polyphonic ringtones and speaker phone.

Pantech S100's design is more than pleasing to the eye and offers all the simplicity that one could expect from a more entry level phone, while still looking quite stylish.

Measuring 105 x 42 x 11.9 mm and weighing just about 70 grams, it can be best described as a phone for the budget-conscious user that doesn't need a multimedia-powerhorse, but still wants to enjoy a track or a snapshot. The manufacturer hasn't yet provided any information on its availability or price, but one can assume that the handset will be among the affordable ones.
