14 DAY TRIAL // Although official support for Windows 7 with Panda Cloud Antivirus isn't expected to be available until the next test development milestone of the Internet-based security solution, Panda's senior research advisor, Pedro Bustamante, revealed that Beta 2 of the product could be made to play nice with the successor of Windows Vista. Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta 2 was initially made available at the end of June 2009, but on July 2009 Panda Security released a press notice informing that it had made available for download the second Beta of its Cloud-based security solution.
In order to get Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta 2 up and running under Windows 7, Bustamante advised users to follow the steps described by DownloadSquad. “Basically the method used to install Cloud Antivirus Beta2 under Windows 7 consists of uncompressing the CloudAntivirus.exe installer file using WinRAR, 7-Zip or any other capable un-compressor and setting the compatibility mode of the SETUP.EXE to Vista,” he noted. “You may then run the installer by double-clicking on SETUP.EXE and this will install Cloud Antivirus Beta2 happily on a Windows 7 system. During some quick testing both the on-access and the on-demand scanner seem to work normally.”
Panda Cloud Antivirus has been designed as a Cloud-based thin-client antivirus cloud, available for free to end users, which is reinventing the protection model, according to Panda Security. The security outfit noted that the latest testing iteration of the solution brings to the table enhancements that have resulted from the contributions of Panda’s user community in over 170 markets around the world. According to official statistics, since its introduction on the market, on April 29, Panda Cloud Antivirus has come across in excess of three million new samples of malicious code. The Cloud antivirus relies on Panda's Collective Intelligence, a technology capable of compiling data from the community for the benefit of all users.
“However please be advised that Cloud Antivirus Beta2 has not yet been certified by our QA team and therefore is not fully Windows 7 compatible. We’re still working on Beta3 which will be fully compatible on both 32 and 64 bits Windows 7,” Bustamante noted. Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta 3 is expected to drop in September 2009.
