However, they too produce LCDs

It is probably for the first time (that I know of) in the recent history when I see a company attacking its own products. Is seems that Panasonic is not very happy about the fact that large LCDs are selling better and better and they began to attack the LCD technology at a large scale. But evidently, they too produce LCDs. I don't exactly know what's behind this attack but it seems that the king of plasmas is pretty serious.

The company believes that plasma technology is under unfair attack from competitors that don't play nice and are constantly making "desperate attempts" to denigrate the plasma's superiority, according to Bob Greenberg, Panasonic's vice president for brand marketing.

Panasonic has started a campaign in which they are trying to demonstrate why plasma is better than LCD. This holiday, Panasonic released a paper called "Six facts you need to know before you buy a large flat-panel TV" in which they talk about the superiority of large plasmas over same size LCD panels. But don't think that they've gone completely insane. Panasonic sells plasma sets from 37 to 65 inches on the diagonal, while its LCD TVs can only be purchased in sizes from 23 to 32 inches. So the campaign is rather self explanatory. As a reminder, Sony produces LCDs that can get as big as 65 inches.

I don't exactly know how I should take this. This is not the first attempt to escalate things in the LCD vs. plasma case but things seem to get tougher day by day. Sony has already started a campaign in which they promote their latest Bravia line. The conflict will probably last for a while, but lately, LCD has gained quite a lot in sales. And the motive behind this is probably the fact that HD plasmas are generally bigger than HD LCDs. For example, you can find an affordable 1080p 42" LCD but good luck in finding a 1080p plasma with the same size! And this loop finds its end at the starting point: the price.
