Regular consumer tablets are of no interest to you and you have your heart set out for Panasonic’s Toughpad FZ-M1 Windows 8.1 tablet? Well, if so far cost has been what kept you away from getting one, you should know the company has announced a more budget-oriented variation of the same model.

The 7-inch Value tablet draws power from a dual-core Intel Celeron N2807 processor, which is quite a downgrade from the Core i5 vPro offered in the premium version.

Even so, on the positive side of things, the chipset should promote longer battery life, so it’s suited for mobile devices like the Toughpad.

The tablet is fitted with 2GB of RAM (with 4GB option) and a 128GB solid state drive. It has an LCD display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and is IP65 certified.

For a rugged slate, it is pretty light, weighing just 540 g / 1.19 lbs.

Other specs include 4GB mobile broadband, GPS, a business module extra capable of adding True Serial, LAN, NFC, smartcard reader, 1D/2D barcode reader and UHF RFID.

The tablet also has two cameras onboard (2MP webcam in front and 8MP on the back). Last but not least, the offering includes USB 3.0 ports, microSD card slot, microSIM slot and a battery said to last up to 8 hours.

The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-M1 Value will arrive in June and sell for £739 / $1,229 / €891.
