Panasonic, one of the world's leading vendors of consumer electronics, but also a significant presence in the market for portable computer systems, has announced today that its Gobi-enabled Toughbook H1 mobile clinical assistant (MCA), has been certified for use on the Verizon Wireless network. This adds a significant value for the end-user, who will be able to take full advantage of the features that are enabled, without having to worry about what access point they'll have at their disposal.

“Nowadays, healthcare professionals are more mobile than ever, and there is a significant need for reliable, secure wireless connectivity,” said Vicky Obenshain, director, Wireless Strategy, Panasonic Computer Solutions Company. “Our Gobi certification on the Verizon Wireless network is another step in making sure our customer needs are met and that we are responding to the emerging trend of increased embedded wireless broadband adoption across all sectors – especially in the healthcare market.”

Late last year, Panasonic introduced a new computer system that was to join the company's impressive line of Toughbook rugged portable PCs. Featuring a 10.4-inch dual touch LCD and a combination of Intel Z540 processor with 1GB of DDR2 memory and 80GB shock-mounted drive, the new computer system had been designed for the medical sector, being touted as a Mobile Clinical Assistant. It now appears that users of the new Toughbook H1 will be able to take advantage of the impressive network coverage offered by Verizon Wireless.

“Healthcare professionals require a reliable wireless network to access critical patient data when working remotely,” said John Maschenic, associate director of healthcare for Verizon Wireless. “Healthcare providers will find the Toughbook H1, on the nation’s largest high speed data network, introduces a new standard in efficiency while giving them access to the information needed to deliver top-notch patient care.”

Available worldwide, the Toughbook H1 comes with an estimated street price tag of US$2,999, backed by a standard 3-year warranty, according to Panasonic.
