Remember Panasonic’s laptop/tablet semi-roughed hybrid, the CF-C2? Well, the super durable machine has just received an update that brings the current standard in chip architecture to the menu, plus some other goodies.

The original CF-C2 model was launched over a year ago, so the update is very welcomed. Panasonic has now added Intel’s 4th generation Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost Technology and the latest Windows 8.1 operating system to the bundle. The update ensures that professionals will be able to experience superior performance regardless of the medium they are working in.

Director of Product Management at Panasonic in the US, Kyp Walls announced the upgrade.

“Even as technology evolves, at the core all our customers are looking for the same thing – performance, reliability, connectivity and flexibility.”

“We’ve made significant improvements to each one of these attributes for the Toughbook CF-C2, and we expect it to continue to be one of the most versatile and popular models in our Toughbook line.”

Of course, the Haswell upgrade entails that customers will be now able to enjoy an improved battery life that now reaches 14 hours on a singer charge (3 hours extra than the previous generation.) Panasonic offers a bridge battery that can act as a substitute to the main one, without powering down the hybrid.

On top of that, the company boasts that the CF-C2 is amongst the first Toughbook models to gain 4G LTE capabilities on multiple carriers. This will help professionals on the go stay connected to the Internet and get their job done, regardless of what their location might be.

The semi-ruggedized hybrid has been built for durability and is capable of withstanding any kind of shock. Its strong magnesium alloy case and shock-mounted flex-connect hard drive ensures the convertible will be able to survive a 30-inch / 76-cm drop to six sides or a 12-inch / 30-cm drop from 26 angles. It should also be mentioned, the embedded keyboard is spill resistant.

The updated Toughbook CF-C2 will become available this month from third-party Panasonic partners and will cost around $1,999 / €1,470.
