Panasonic has updated its semi-rugged Toughbook CF-C2 2-1 device to support the latest Windows 8.1 Pro version. The company has also added a 4th generation Haswell processor to boost performance and battery life from 11 hours to 14 hours.

Head of Marketing for Panasonic Computer Product Solutions, Jan Kaempfer said that “this latest semi-rugged Thoughbook CF-C2 has been designed to change the working lives and operational efficiency of mobile workers.”

“It is truly the most durable and flexible business convertible PC in the market, offering desktop levels of performance, high-class connectivity, long battery life and advanced mobility techniques.”

Panasonic claims that this is the perfect mobile device for professionals active in different fields. The tablet PC hybrid draws power from an Intel Core i5 processor aided by Intel Turbo Boost Technology, meaning that workers will be able to leave the device in standby mode for prolonged periods of time.

The base model packs 4GB of RAM (upscaled to 8GB) coupled with a 500GB HDD (other alternatives include 128GB or 256GB.)

Toughbook CF-C2 features a 10-inch multi-touch display with IPS technology and is bundled with a Panasonic anti-reflection layer in order to ensure users will be able to work in any light conditions.

Those needing to capture images for their work should know that the CF-C2 is equipped with an HD 720p frontal camera. Panasonic has updated the optional rear camera from 3 to 5 megapixels.

The update has also improved the CF-C2 connectivity feats with the Gobi 5000 4G module, Bluetooth v4.0 and Wireless LAN IEEE802.11a/b/g/n.

As the hybrid has been designed to provide support for several business environments, Panasonic has made sure the device is resistant enough to be used on construction sites, for example. Therefore, it has provided the CF-C2 with a water resistant keyboard, touchpad and strengthened glass. The company claims that the device can survive a drop of 30 inches / 76 cm.

The Toughbook is expected show its face in the UK starting January 2014. It will be available for an estimated price tag of £1,589 / $2,525 / €1878.
