With 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution being the main one used in shooting films now, even the smallest cameras have integrated it as a regular feature for video recording. The Panasonic GF7 is no exception to this.

The newcomer, a micro four thirds camera powered by a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor, may not be the smallest photo and video capture device in the world, but it's nonetheless quite small.

In fact, it would be small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket if not for how the Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens sticks out.

Alas, this is one “problem” that will never be solved for this type of device, so unless you're wearing a wide-pocket jacket, you'll have to use a bag of some sort, or just carry it in your hand while hiking.

Powered by a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor, the newcomer can record Full HD video (1920 x 1080 pixels) in AVCHD Progressive (50p) format, or in MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format.

A contrast AF system is included, as is Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi with One-Button Connect in fact, meaning that you will link it to a PC, tablet, smartphone or whatever else easily.

Moving on, the ISO goes up to 25,600, which means that night-time shots will have decent visibility if you need to capture some. The stars may not turn out perfectly, but closer objects and people should.

You can use a 3-inch 1040K-dot LCD to view what you're about to capture, or utilize the touch support to issue other commands, like file transfers and access. The display can be tilted at 180 degrees, as the gallery shows.

Other interesting gimmicks include dual shutter buttons (Buddy and Face Shutters are available), light speed auto focus (Contrast AF, Low Light AF, Face / Eye Detection AF), and a number of creative and automatic picture capture modes (Self Shot, Jump Snap, Creative Control, Time Lapse, and Stop Motion Animation).

All the while, the device is run by a Venus Engine Image Processor.
