Released back in July, the new Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f1.7 II ASPH is a revised version of the popular Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f1.7 ASPH lens. DxO labs has put this lens to the test against its predecessor and the Panasonic Leica Summilux DG 25mm f1.4.

Looking at the test results, the new Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f1.7 II ASPH appears to be slightly less sharp than its predecessor, even when stopped down. Edge-to-edge and corner sharpness is slightly lower compared to the Lumix G 20mm f1.7 ASPH lens, even though we expected Panasonic to come with an improved optical quality for this new lens version.

Put side by side with the brighter Leica 25mm, the Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f1.7 II ASPH has the same level of overall sharpness, but lacks the edge-to-edge consistency of the latter.

With a wide range of rival lenses out on the market, the Lumix G 20mm f1.7 II ASPH will have a hard time attracting sales, as it doesn't come with any notable improvements over the previous version.
