Specifications for the LX8 are currently quite scarce

Smartphone camera photography has really taken off, and more and more people are abandoning the traditional mode of taking photographs.

That’s why camera manufacturers have increasingly been offering compact cameras that boast capable lenses and large sensors, in an attempt to keep photo enthusiasts from jumping into the smartphone bandwagon.

Sony has recently launched the compact RX100M3, and if word on the street is to believed (via PhotoRumors), Panasonic is also gearing up to drop the LX8 on July 16.

Specifications of the Panasonic LX8 remain pretty sketchy at this point, but the sources claim the camera will arrive with a built-in EVF and a large sensor, so that it can compete with Sony’s RX100M3. Apart from that, everything is still shrouded in mystery.

LX8’s predecessors, the LX7 has been announced back in July 2012, so it makes sense that Panasonic is looking to refresh the lineup, since 2 years have already gone by.

Back when it launched, the LX7 boasted a newly developed 24mm ultra wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Summilux lens with F1.4 brightness at the widest end and F2.3 at the telephoto end. The DMC-LX7 also delivers an advanced lens system that enables users to snap photographs with minimal distortion.
