Good news, 4K lovers. Panasonic appears to be getting ready to soon indulge you with a new compact camera taking advantage of a Four Thirds / Micro Four Thirds sensor. And listen to this, it will be capable of shooting in 4K.

A very trusted source that talked to Mirrorless Rumors disclosed that the so-called Panasonic FZ1000 compact camera with 4K will be making an appearance at Photokina 2014 in the upcoming weeks. So rejoice!

Rumors saying Panasonic is working on a compact camera taking advantage of Four Thirds or Micro Four Thirds technology have been with us for quite some time.

But this week we get the confirmation we needed. Surely, like any other rumor, it should be taken with a grain of salt, but we have the feeling this is the real deal.

So far, we didn't know how Panasonic intends to call the shooter, but as of today we can tell you, you should be looking out for the LX1000.

For the time being, we can’t give you a more in-depth view of the specs, but 4K and Four Thirds technology are two things that should get most folks excited.

The LX1000 name makes us think of the FZ1000 snapper Panasonic launched not so long ago. This camera took advantage of a 20.1MP 1-inch type sensor and 35mm equivalent lens of 24-400mm.

The superzoom shooter also arrives 4K ready, but this is where the similarities will end. The two products are expected to compete head to head, so the LX1000 will most likely take advantage of a different optics.

Will the LX1000 have anything to do with the LX series of compacts? Possibly. The LX8 has been expected to replace the LX7 for a while now. However, the rumor mill insists the device will drop with a 1-inch type sensor.

Could it be possible that Panasonic has changed its initial plan of rolling out the LX8? This is another scenario, in which the company has taken out the 1-inch sensor and replaced it with a Four Thirds one.

So it could mean that the LX8 and the LX1000 are one and the same. As we advance towards Photokina 2014, we expect to see more details become available about this new 4K-ready cam.

The camera gear market is expected to hold a launch event, so we will soon have all the answers to our questions. On the other hand, we might see the LX8 arrive alongside the Micro Four Thirds / Four Thirds image sensor.
