Some of you might remember the Panasonic FL580L was announced alongside the Lumix GH4 mirrorless camera. The device will be able to compete against flagship flashes coming from Nikon and Canon, thanks to its guide number (GN) of 58.

Now Panasonic has made its new flagship flashgun available for pre-order for $598 / €434  a pop from Adorama and B&H Photo. For more info on third-party retailers in your area visit Panasonic’s website. The product’s estimated shipping date has been set for May 2014.

The FL580L can be thought of as the bigger brother of the FL360L or the Olympus FL-600R and has been designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras (except for Kodaks).

The unit bundles built-in optical wireless flash control, complete with a choice of four channels and three groups, compatible with Lumix GH4, GH3, GX7, G6 and GF6 compact system cameras.

It should be mentioned that the device can light up both stills and video, thanks to an LED constant lamp that’s embedded in the body below the main Xenon flash tube (for dim lighted environments.)

Like other premium flashes coming from the likes of Canon and Nikon, users can also take advantage of TTL exposure control, high-end speed sync and much more.
