Panasonic has recently decided that the best way to celebrate its 100th anniversary would be to donate a whopping 100,000 solar lanterns to people living in rural Asia and Africa.

The human communities whose members are to receive these lanterns currently lack access to electricity. Because of this, social, economic and personal development is difficult to achieve.

“Panasonic deploys the 100 Thousand Solar Lantern Project, a project to donate a total of 100,000 solar lanterns to people in regions of the world without electricity, by 2018, the 100th anniversary of the company's founding,” reads the company's website.

Up until now, 3,000 Compact Solar Lights have been given to NGOs looking to improve the lives of people living in Myanmar. Other 5,000 solar lanterns have been sent to India, and 2,000 are waiting to be shipped to refugees in Kenya.
