We have already told you that Panasonic is expected to launch the LX8, which should be the smallest 4K-capable camera in existence according to sources familiar with the matter, at an event scheduled for July 16.

But as it turns out, Panasonic is not putting up a big fancy event just to launch one single product, and according to fresh information coming to us from Camyx (via DicaHub), another Panasonic compact camera will be unveiled during the event.

This particular device is believed to come equipped with a Micro Four Thirds sensor, but a specific name for it hasn't been revealed yet, nor have any specs.

The source telling us all this is none other than one of the company’s managers, Uematsu Michiharu, so his word should be taken seriously.

Back in 2012, Michiharu talked about Panasonic’s plans of launching a fixed lens compact camera bundling Four Thirds sensor technology.

However, the company had to figure some things out before launching such a product. For example, the camera was supposed to be made thinner than the Lumix GX1, add a very bright lens and sell for an affordable price-tag.

So Panasonic had to figure out how to make cameras more compact than the GX1, but it eventually managed to do so. On top of that, it was able to design a max aperture of f/1.7 or f/2.

Moreover, the company appears to have managed to put everything together, so a Four Thirds compact camera is ready to be launched on July 16. Pricing shouldn't be bigger than $950 / €697.

While information is scarce regarding this particular product, there’s a lot we know about the LX8 compact camera.

4K video recording enthusiasts will be happy to know the Panasonic LX8 will arrive next month bundling a 1-inch type image sensor, which was recently revealed to be the same as in the 4K-ready FZ1000.

Furthermore, the camera will arrive with a 24-90mm f/2.0-2.8 Leica lens and will take advantage of Swivel & touch screen.

A lot like Sony’s compact RX100M3, the LX7 will offer a built-in EVG, but will be devoid of hotshoe. Other specs include automatic lens cap, built-in 3 stop ND filter and touch screen.

Anyway, the LX8 will replace the LX7 camera, which was launched in July 2012, and Panasonic will finally be offering a replacement after exactly two years.

Be sure to mark the July 16 date in your calendar if you’re a Panasonic fan or a 4K enthusiast.
