Still a long way behind Toshiba

Panasonic announced the launch of a new SDHC memory card in order to ramp up its Pro High Speed line. The new 16GB memory card will carry the designation RP-SDV16GU1K and will feature a high storage capacity and a high access speed and it is expected to arrive in stores sometime during November 2007 with a price tag of about $319.99.

The Pro High Speed line of products from Panasonic which currently includes cards with storage capacities of 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB, will benefit from the inclusion of the 16GB card which comes with a Class 6 Speed specification. "As more and more people become engaged in the High Definition lifestyle, there is a growing demand for recording High Definition video and high resolution digital still images," said Zoe Susice, Panasonic's national marketing manager. "A key part of the High Definition lifestyle is the expansion of HD camcorders and high-resolution digital still cameras demanding card-based recording media with larger capacity and higher data transfer speeds. Our new model meets this demand with a massive16GB data storage capacity and a high data transfer speed of up to 20MB/s."

Panasonic, as one of the most important manufacturers and vendors of High Definition and Flat Panel HDTV technology, intends to dedicate the new 16GB memory card to AVCHD High Definition recording in conjunction with the newly released High Definition SD video camera which can record around four hours in normal mode and about 2 hours 40minutes of 1920 x 1080i full High Definition video in AVCHD fine mode. With data transferring speeds of up to 20MB per second, the new 16GB memory card is fast enough for the latest digital devices and it is able to provide both performance and storage space. Designed for still pictures as well as movies, the Panasonic RP-SDV16GU1K card can hold about 6160 still images recorded at a maximum resolution of 10 Megapixels or 3648x2736 in the normal quality mode.
