After lots and lots of leaked images and details related to Palm Treo Pro, the new smartphone has been finally presented in an official way, by Palm itself. The Sunnyvale company describes the handset as "an effortlessly usable smartphone", and puts the accent on its elegant look.

The features of Treo Pro are pretty much the same as the ones known until now, which is a good thing. The new smartphone brings quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, tri-band HSDPA connectivity (850 / 1900 / 2100 MHz), Windows Mobile 6.1, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, a 320 x 320 pixels TFT touchscreen display, a full QWERTY keyboard, Office document viewer and editor, advanced email capabilities, Pocket Internet Explorer, Palm shortcuts, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and EDR, a 3.5mm headset jack, Music / Video player, a 2 Megapixel camera and microUSB.

Treo Pro will come with a wide range of software, including: Google Maps, QuickGPS, Telenav, Get WorldMate, Adobe Reader LE, SIM Manager and Sprite Backup. Moreover, the Pro will have, included in the package, a microUSB cable and a stereo headset.

Palm's new smartphone relies on a Qualcomm MSM7201 processor at 400 MHz and brings 128MB of RAM and 256MB of internal memory (with 100MB available for users). The handset also supports microSD and microSDHC cards of up to 32GB.

The Treo Pro weighs 133 grams (4.69 ounces) and measures 114 x 60 x 13.5 millimeters (4.49 x 2.36 x 0.53 inches), so it's obviously the slimmest Palm smartphone built until now. Its battery is a 1500 mAh one that should last up to five hours in talk-time mode or up to 250 hours in stand-by mode.

Talking about the new handset, Ed Colligan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Palm, said, "Businesses want the control and savings that Windows Mobile affords, in an innovative and elegant package that keeps their users happy. That's where Palm comes in. Everything about Treo Pro - from the hardware design to the packaging and accessories - embodies the elegant and simplified end-to-end experience that our customers expect from Palm".

Palm Treo Pro will be commercially available starting September. Vodafone and O2 will be the first carriers to offer it across Europe, for prices between 0 and 399 Euros depending on the contract agreement and data plan users want. Telstra will be the third carrier to sell the new Treo, but in Australia and not in Europe (of course).

According to Palm, Treo Pro will be available in the US only unlocked, in a GSM version, for a retail price of 549 USD.
