Might prove to be a listing mistake

Sunnyvale-based mobile phone maker Palm launched only a few months ago its first handset powered by the new webOS platform, the Palm Pre, a smartphone that is expected to become available for purchase in the UK via O2 starting with October 16, only four days from now. Strangely enough though, a recent shot of O2's accessory selection section shows that a Pre II is also on its way to the carrier.

This is the first time a Pre II shows up into the wild, and there are great chances that it will turn out to be only a listing mistake and not a leak from the carrier, as PreCentral notes. Especially since the GSM version of Palm Pre, which is also expected to become available via Telefonica in Spain and other markets, hasn't been pushed out to the market just yet.

On the other hand, Palm's second webOS device, the Pixi, also needs to come to the shelves in the near future, and the phone maker is certainly focused on this move at the moment. However, it is also possible that the UK carrier has listed by mistake the Palm Pixi as Pre II, which would suggest that Palm is also working on a GSM Pixi that should soon reach O2's airwaves.

For what it's worth, enthusiasts will certainly have high hopes upon learning that a Pre II might make an appearance in Palm's offering in the near future, though surely there are some doubts in this regard. Hopefully, the Sunnyvale company is doing well enough to be able to plan a second Pre already, although it comes so soon after the launch of the original device. Whether this Pre II is the GSM Pixi or a third webOS-powered handset will certainly be clarified in the near future, so stay tuned to learn the news.
