Palm announced yesterday the release of its Palm Centro smartphone in Colombia, via Comcel and Movistar, the largest mobile operators in the country.

After announcing the Centro for Mexico, Palm has now moved a bit to the South and will try to conquer the Colombian mobile market with the small and compact handset. Most probably, the Centro will be successful in this South American country, knowing the fact that, until now, it was sold in more than 1 million units worldwide.

Palm Centro weighs 124 grams, measures 107 x 53.5 x 18.6 millimeters and comes with a wide range of useful features, including mobile email, WAP 2.0 and Blazer 4.5 Internet browsers, organizer, Google Maps, document viewer and editor. Furthermore, the device runs on Palm OS 5.4.9 and features quad-band GSM connectivity with GPRS and EDGE, a TFT touchscreen display with 320 x 320 pixels and 65K colors, a full QWERTY keypad for easy texting and writing emails, Music player, an 1.3 Megapixel camera with video recording, Bluetooth with A2DP, 64MB of internal memory and microSD card support for up to 4GB.

Although Palm says the handset is available as of now via both Comcel and Movistar, on the carriers' websites the smartphone is not yet featured. However, Colombian mobile users can probably find the Centro if they pay a visit to the retail stores of the above mentioned operators.

The Colombian price for the new handset was not revealed until now, nor the colors in which it's available.

Comcel, the most important mobile operator in Colombia, has a subscriber base of more than 22 million, while Movistar, subsidiary of Telef?nica M?viles, only has about 8 million customers. Anyway, Palm's Centro has high chances to attract many consumers from both carriers, especially if its price is a reasonable one (and we can't see any reason for it not to be).
