Michael Bay is back and he’s proving once more that, no matter what the critics say, his movies are always a hit with audiences. His latest project, “Pain & Gain,” opened strong in the US, taking down Tom Cruise’s “Oblivion” at the box office.

As I informed you last week, “Oblivion” brought Tom the biggest North America opening outside the “Mission Impossible” franchise.

However, his reign has ended, The Hollywood Reporter notes: Michael Bay is now at number 1, ahead of the big premiere of “Iron Man 3,” which should dethrone him next weekend, when it opens wide in the US.

“Michael Bay's Pain & Gain – headlining Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson – topped the North American box office with $20 million [€15.3 million] on the final weekend before summer tentpoles begin rolling out,” THR says.

The budget of the film was of about $26 million (€19.9 million) so it’s safe to say that Bay already has another hit on his hands.
