The San Diego four day fan fest, Comic Con 2006, came to a conclusion on Sunday. Under the code name "PSP University", Sony presented the audience with coverage of Playstation Portable present and future projects.

According to IGN, officials confirmed the PSP will act as a remote control, bringing additional functionality and interactivity with Sony's next generation Playstation 3. Although they're not on PSP's top selling list, titles as Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Pursuit Force were named great games, among the chief reasons to own Sony's handheld console. A firmware update that will include RSS video support and a demo of World Tour Soccer 2 will be released this Thursday. It seems Sony is negotiating with wireless providers the introduction of more Wi-Fi hotspots, for easier internet connectivity. No layout changes are planned for the handheld's design. Sony also showed trailers for their next UMD movie releases as well as the upcoming game titles: Ratchet & Clank, Gangs of London.

The past weeks saw talks about shops retreating their UMD products from the shelves, making them available only through online orders. In spite of this partial drawback, Sony Pictures and Fox assured the public they still have UMD products in the making, in addition to the currently 350 UMD movies and TV shows available. In fact PSP seems to have about of one million units ahead of Nintendo DS in the US, although the reported figures reflect shipped, as opposed to sold, units. In the same line of thought, Sony Japan is studying the possibility of a video output solution for the PSP. Overall, nothing major is in the works, yet Sony continues the expanding of PSP's non gaming related functions.
