Regie Fills-Aime, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Nintendo of America, has launched scathing attacks on the various devices that are trying to position themselves as being rivals to the company's Nintendo DS handheld. The company man touted the advantages of the platform, which at the moment leads the market in sales and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Regie Fills-Aime talked to The Washington Post, and stated that “The DS, with its dual screens, offers an experience that cannot be replicated on a smartphone.” The recently released Scribblenauts was one of the games highlighted as offering a “fabulous experience that can only be brought to life on the DS. All of these experiences are very unique and very different and what you cannot find on their App Store.”

These comments are a direct attack on Apple, which has recently said that the iPhone, with its touchscreen interface and wide variety of videogames, is better suited to provide gaming on the go than the similar products from Nintendo and from Sony.

Another target in the rant of the Nintendo CEO has been the recently outed PlayStation Portable Go from Sony, which is set to be a direct competitor to the new DSi. He declared that the device has a “fundamental concept problem” mainly because of the fact that content for the device can only be obtained through download from the PlayStation Network and other sources that Sony trusts. Of course, Fills-Aime hedged his comments by pointing out that he has only respect for the competition and that he welcomes all types of innovation.

The Nintendo-powered tough talk comes as the company has one of the worst years in recent memory, with sales of the Nintendo Wii lagging behind those of last year and with the all-important Japanese market continuing to shrink.
