The update brings better compatibility with the PSN

The PSP's firmware has just been updated to version 3.72 and it seems that its major feature is enhanced compatibility with the games featured on the PlayStation Network. In case you ever had issues with those PSX games that you can download from the PS Store with the aid of your PS3, now they're surely gone and you can play them on your PSP.

3.72 follows a very popular piece of firmware, as its predecessor featured an important update which allowed gamers to view photos and listen to music at the same time. Also, it added the "Themes" option and a very useful scene searching option for the videos you stored on your memory stick. For now, the new firmware is only available on the official Japanese Sony site, but we'll surely see it on its English-based version soon enough. Meanwhile, somebody over at the console producer's HQ must be still celebrating since yesterday, the PS2 turned 7 and we found out that it had sold 120 million units worldwide.

Back to the update, I have a feeling we'll also be seeing a PS3 firmware update soon, as the two consoles go hand in hand when it comes to software development. I bet that the homebrewing community is already working on a hacked version of the software, to Sony's discontent. The Japanese company tried to shut those illegal developers, by banning them from their official forum and banning anyone who talked about modding or homebrew software. Strangely enough, two of the toughest anti-piracy fighters in the world, Nintendo and Apple, recently allowed some of the homebrew software to be used on their devices.

I'm talking about that DC flash card which will support some third party games and the iPhone, also ready for some third party action. Sony haven't yet been convinced that such co-working with homebrewers can prove to be a good idea and I give this "enlightenment" a month or two from now, because I'm sure it will happen.
