The data coming from Japan suggests that the new version of the Sony handheld, dubbed the PSP-3000, is selling very well, boosting sales of the PlayStation Portable close to 160,000 units. Taking into account that the numbers are for just seven days, they are really impressive. During the previous week, the PSP managed to only sell around 24,000 consoles. In the coming weeks, the PSP-3000 version will completely replace the PSP Slim and the PSP Lite on store shelves.

The Nintendo DS managed to move close to 30,000 units in the same week, as customers were waiting to see how the new DSi would impact sales when arriving during November.

Nintendo is still in a good position, with the Wii taking third place in hardware sales just as Wii Music is released in Japan. The Nintendo home console managed to sell 3,000 units more than in the previous week, reaching 26,024.

Microsoft must also be content with seeing how the Xbox 360, after the recent price cut, manages to hold on to third spot, with sales of around 7,856 units. The PlayStation 2 is hot on its wheels, with 7,261 units moved to customers, while the PlayStation 3 seems to be less and less interesting to gamers as time passes by, this week managing to move just 4,725 consoles.

Wii Music has had a good although not extraordinary first week, selling 92,000 copies for the Nintendo Wii. The game is aimed at casual players that would like to interact with a variety of instruments while also getting a chance to simulate a variety of tracks, some from well known Nintendo franchises.

Pokemon Monsters Platinum is still at number two, with about 72,000 units sold and with total sales passing the 1.75 million mark. The coming months are expected to see bigger sales for the Nintendo DS title.

Yusha no Kuse ni Namaikida Or 2 is the third best selling game in Japan.
