The service still has outages and users can't connect to it

The PlayStation Network is still suffering from issues, and right now, Sony confirms that its service is experiencing intermittent connectivity, even if it's made modifications to the network in order to allow PS4 owners to connect without changing their MTU settings.

This year's winter holidays haven't been that great for Sony, as besides the traditional influx of new users taking a toll on its PlayStation Network online service, the company has also been attacked via DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) perpetrated by the Lizard Squad collective.

The company has taken a very long time to return its PSN to normal status and it seemed that yesterday was finally the day in which things would go back to how they were before the holidays and the DDoS attacks.

The PSN still suffers from problems

Unfortunately for owners of the PS4, PS3, or PS Vita, it seems that the PlayStation Network is still plagued by outages and other problems.

According to the official PSN Status website organized by Sony, the network now has "intermittent connectivity," meaning it's not guaranteed that all users can go online using their consoles.

Apparently, Sony is also having a tougher time detecting just what's wrong with the PlayStation Network and why users can't connect to it.

"We realize that some are still reporting issues connecting to PSN. We are currently working on gathering some information from those affected. We appreciate your patience as we look into the issues reported," the company explains on its forums.

As such, it's asking fans to share some information about their situation, including their location, the provider of their internet service, their console, and the errors offered by the PSN.

Sony has made some improvements to eliminate the need for workarounds

What's more, the company confirms on Twitter that it has, in fact, updated the protocols of the PlayStation Network so that PS4 users won't have to change their MTU settings to at least try to log in.

"Update for PS4 users: We've made recent updates to the network that should allow you to sign in without changing MTU settings," the company adds.

As of right now, it's unclear if the PSN will get back to normal in time for the new year.
