They put labels on the PS3 saying "buy the 360, it's a great machine"

Akihabara's AsoBitCity has recently acquired a total number of...two PlayStation3 consoles in the 20 GB version, which they were planning on selling of course, otherwise why would they get them, to gather dust on shelves? Well, actually yes. That's exactly what they did, and still do because nobody seems to want the 20 GB version of the PS3, people are fond of the 60 GB version and if they don't like that either, they turn to Microsoft's 360. Pretty normal so far. But, those at AsoBitCity acquired them two weeks ago and still didn't sell any of the machines and let me remind you that there are only two of them.

To further make a mockery out of the PS3's name, they actually stuck stickers with handwritten specs and features of the Xbox 360 console on the boxes of 60 GB PS3s to encourage customers to buy them. The stickers said: "The 360 is a hot game machine." How lame is that? How would Sony feel about this? I can see them right now with loser signs on their foreheads.

What could be the reason behind all this? Some I can think of right now are: -poor demand of PlayStation3 machines makes merchandisers give little attention to PS3s and eventually forget they are even there; -the big boss tells them "do something about those 2 PS3s that have been on our shelves for ages!" -the head merchandiser comes up with the plan of placing stickers on the boxes and gives the order for that (of course he could do it himself as there are just 2 machines but he has a higher rank and won't get dust on his hands); -the employee assigned to do it hears the word "boxes" and writes: "buy the Xbox! It's a great machine" on the sticker (you'll probably say that's a long shot but it's not; if the merchandiser had been a smart guy, he'd be more than a merchandiser) -finally he gives it to a colleague to make the whole thing feel like team work and tells him: "stick 'em on those boxes over there!" -the guy does exactly as told, end of story.

That's just one way it could have happened.
