If there's anything more that anyone would want from Namco's Tekken series, it's an online installment. The developer has just announced its developing Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online, which is really an update to the now available downloadable fighting game, via PlayStation Store exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

As you can imagine, this is the first time a downloadable add-on will have been rolled out for the superbly crafted Tekken fighting series. The new online feature will include ranked matches, custom battles and online tournaments where Tekken fans will finally be able to show off their fighting skills to have it out with other fans, outside of their own homes.

"It is beyond words how excited we are to finally be bringing our famous fighting franchise, TEKKEN, online for the first time," Makoto Iwai, Senior Vice President and COO of NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. said. "Not only is TEKKEN 5: Dark Resurrection Online a great value, but it now features the largest evolution in the franchise to date."

Dark Resurrection Online will also allow players to show off with the Online News Ticker that will post the weekly, monthly and overall rank leaders at any given point. Updates to the new Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online will include Opti Match, Quick Match, Custom Match and Friend Match, making it easy to find opponents to fight with anywhere, anytime.

Players will also have the opportunity to study their opponents by viewing battles in the lobby while waiting for their turn to conquer and trash talk each other via voice chat. Two new single player modes will also be available, including Practice mode (you're going to need a lot of practice) and Survival mode, which Tekken fans should know that it's a treacherous game mode, but appealing nonetheless.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online will of course feature 1080p visuals, keeping the same Teken gameplay that you're used to. The online update will be made available later this year for just $9.99. Don't worry of you don't own the full Tekken 5 game though, it's still up on PS Store for $19.99 and will be there for quite some time.
