You'd think that developers got over the button-mashing gameplay with next-gen hardware

As you'd expect, Spider-Man 3 for the PS3 didn't exactly blow anyone's mind away. Two big a*s gaming sites reviewed Treyarch's game, published by Activision and came to the following conclusion: other than web-swinging through the city's buildings, the game is far from spectacular and not just in terms of gameplay but in terms of visuals as well - not the kind of review you'd expect from a next-gen game.

IGN talks cheap boss fights, constant button pressing (you'd think that with next-gen games developers would get over the button-mashing thing and go for the more interesting control schemes) and most of all, visuals: "the visuals are far from spectacular, and although the random crimes aren't the same events over and over, they definitely reuse the same ideas," says the site, dubbing the game "Spider-Man 2: Special Edition." Haha!

Gamespot on the other hand sees even more issues with Spider-Man 3: camera, presentation, clumsy combat etc. They do however admit that the swinging experience is great. Phew, at least something is good with this game! Actually, come to think of it, Spider-Man fans like Spidey 'cause he can swing, thus developers emphasized the swinging parts to make it feel great. But looks... I have to say I'm a little surprised to hear that visuals are actually "far from spectacular" seeing the trailer and all. I couldn't see whether Gamespot saw bad visuals for a next-gen game, or just plain bad graphics.

Oh well, I guess it was one of those trailers that said the game looks superb yet when you buy your own copy and pop in the disc things tend to be a little different. The two sites graded it 6 out of 10 and respectively 6.6 out of 10.
