And the machine still has to get some good next-gen titles

So, it was the price that was holding it back after all. Of course, many blame the lack of titles as well (myself included) but when Sony cracks that nut, I reckon the PS3 will make record sales. I mean, Punch Jump posts the following: "Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 increased 700 percent at Amazon.com following the company's decision to price reduce the current retail SKU to $499."

The site also points out that the machine "currently ranks at No. 3 in the best-selling Computer & Video Games products at the retailer. Before the price cut it held a rank of No. 24 on the charts. In addition, the PS3 ranks as the third biggest sales gainer in the Video Games division in the past 24 hours."

As everyone knows, Sony announced the $100 price reduction for the 60GB PS3 as well as for the 80GB SKU, mentioning that the latter will debut in the U.S. in August, coming bundled with an included retail copy of the online racing title, MotorStorm. Aren't people sick of MotorStorm...? Oh wait, that must be the reason why they're shoving it down people's throats then.

Sony still has a lot to accomplish with their powerful machine. The Wii and Xbox 360 are way ahead of it, but given the fact that the company still has that amazing PlayStation Home on the launching pad, I suppose they know what their strategies are.

And if we think about it, the company has nothing to fear with that impressive lineup of 380 titles soon to hit the platform. The news came straight from Reuters (India) last month, shockingly revealing that 200 packs of software and 180 downloadable via the Internet, are in order for the PS3. Here's the original post: "Sony Corp. said on Thursday it expects about 380 new PlayStation 3 titles to become available in the business year to March 2008, on top of more than 100 titles currently on the market".

Finally, I don't have to come up with headlines for PS3 price cut rumors anymore...
