Auto Thermo Sensing Technology enables it to start running only when the Playstation 3 console is overheated

One problem often occurring with next-gen consoles is internal temperature. Companies such as Microsoft and Sony spend a lot of resources and time coming up with the best possible cooling system for their hardware.

While Microsoft chose to throw in their Xbox 360 a big-a*s cooler to do the job of keeping temperature down, for gamers to be able to use it hours at a time, Sony made a sort of a compromise, inserting a smaller cooling system, to keep the noise down.

Noise is an issue indeed. There have been many reports of noisy Xbox 360 (noise coming from the HDD too), but never overheating reports. PS3 overheating reports however, have been heard of. PS3s usually get heated up while trying to watch movies on Blu-ray discs, in which situation, one must shut the console down for about 20 minutes after one hour and a half of viewing.

Thus gaming site IGN is proud to present PS3 owners with the Pelican Air Flo cooling device. The device can be attached to the right side of the console, as shown in the pictures to the left. It does a good job keeping temperature down, enabling users to watch a movie and even play afterwards, not worrying about the machine heating up.

The only problem PS3 owners may experience with this device is that it does make some noise (8 feet away from the console and you can hear it loud and clear). But not all the time, as the device is “intelligent.” To be specific, it has 'Auto Thermo Sensing Technology,' which means it'll sense when the machine gets overheated and will start running.

Whether you think you need it or not, it's a good asset ensuring the longevity of your PS3's life.
