Andrew House, the leader of Sony Computer Entertainment, says that the Instant Game Collection that the company has launched via the PlayStation Plus service is one of the most interesting initiatives at the moment.

The executive says that plenty of players have used it in order to access games, some of them created by indie companies, which they would not have otherwise bought or played.

House tells CVG that, “Via PlayStation Plus, the Instant Game Collection experience has taken off, because people have that joy of discovering those new, quirky experiences that maybe they wouldn’t have come across. That’s a very strong area of emphasis for us.”

He adds, “With PlayStation Plus, we’ve almost stumbled upon a great way to connect independent games developers with an audience. From what independent developers tell me, the mobile space is an increasing struggle for those looking to find an audience, so we have the opportunity to give two things to independent games developers.”

PlayStation Plus is a subscription service, which means that users need to pay each month in order to use it.

A subscriber can access all the games that Sony has launched for free, which means that a committed player can create a solid library for a small price, experiencing the best titles that the platform has to offer.

Resogun and Contrast are the games that are at the moment offered via the Instant Game Collection on the PlayStation 4 and Sony is promising that other interesting titles will be launched in the coming months.

Since its new console was first announced, the company has courted indie developers and soon, players will be able to play The Witness, the new game from the creator of Braid.

Microsoft is trying to do something similar on the Xbox One with its ID@Xbox program.
