Power Quotient International, or PQI if you like, seems to be overrun with products. Aside from the Disk on Module we reported today, the company has just announced four new flash memory solutions aimed at a broad category of users, from photographers to businessmen.

Two of the most important units are the high speed 226X Industrial CF Turbo+ and the 256GB SSD Turbo+. Professional photographers will love the new 226x Industrial compact flash cards, which take advantage of the Ultra DMA standard and are available in capacities of up to 16GB. Most cards top at 133X (20MB/sec), so the 226x speed rating means that files will be transferred almost twice as fast.

However, Lexar is one step ahead of PQI in terms of speed, the former having announced in early 2007 the 300x compact flash, also based on the UDMA standard. Don't forget though, UDMA cards will not reach their limit capacity unless used in conjunction with compatible devices.

The second major product on the company's list is the 256GB SSD Turbo+, which is impressive, but not as impressive as the 512GB SSD Drives from Zeus. SSDs have made their debut in some of the world's renowned PCs replacing traditional hard drives. Apart from the advantages described, SSDs also have longer average data storage time of 10 years and faster seek times compared to traditional hard drive read / write heads.

Unfortunately, mechanical hard drives are still faster than SSDs when it comes to sheer transfer speed, but at some point, we will look at mechanical HDDs just as we look today at floppy drives.

Aside from the SATA 256GB SSD Turbo+, PQI has also announced 32GB PCI-E SSD and 1.8" 32GB ZIF ? SSD storage media for those with more advanced laptops that support the PCI-E interface.

PQI has not disclosed any pricing details.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
