The PCLinuxOS team announced yesterday evening, June 30th, the second maintenance release of PCLinuxOS 2009 in both of its KDE 3 and GNOME 2 variants. Besides the usual bugfixes and updated applications, PCLinuxOS 2009.2 comes now packed with a new tool called "notification-updater," which notifies the user about available system updates. Another interesting utility is "GetOpenOffice" and it will allow users to install the popular, open-source OpenOffice.org office suite 3.1.0. Last but not least, PCLinuxOS 2009.2 brings "addlocale," a utility that can localize your PCLinuxOS installation in your favorite language!

"There has been an explosion of activity going on over here at PCLinuxOS. The quarterly ISO updates for PCLinuxOS 2009.2 and PCLinuxOS Gnome 2009.2 are now available featuring a fully updated iso with the latest applications from the PCLinuxOS repositories. Additional features include a notification-updater to let you know when there are updates available for your installation. Addlocale will localize your PCLinuxOS into one of many various languages. GetOpenOffice allows you to install Open Office 3.1 in any of the 104 languages available. Thanks goes to Pinoc, Neal, Travis, Maik and the rest of the community for providing these well desired applications." - said Smiling Bob in the official release announcement.

About PCLinuxOS and PCLinuxOS GNOME

PCLinuxOS was founded six years ago, in October of 2003, by a company called Texstar, located in Houston, Texas. The PCLinuxOS distribution comes in the form of a Live CD, but it can also be permanently installed on a hard drive. PCLinuxOS uses the APT package manager and its Synaptic GUI (Graphical User Interface) frontend.

PCLinuxOS GNOME is a community-created version of the original PCLinuxOS and provides those who prefer GNOME to KDE with an opportunity to try PCLinuxOS while still using their favorite desktop environment. Besides the packages that are available in the original version, PCLinuxOS GNOME provides custom-made applications for GNOME.
